Government Agencies Covering Antarctica

Antarctica does not have an independent central government. Instead, it is administered, managed, protected and conserved according to international treaty agreements that include strict environmental and conservation standards and rules. More than 30 nations have agencies within their federal governments for managing their Antarctic activities and interests. While these agencies usually have multiple functions, some of their primary functions are scientific research concerning the Antarctic environment and environmental conservation activities in Antarctica. Thus these agencies function as the de facto government environmental agencies for the continent of Antarctica.
